Counselor's Corner
Hello and welcome to the 2023-2024 school year here at Audie Murphy Middle School. My name is Mrs. Yvonne Galindo, and on behalf of Mr. Lisandro Espinoza, Mr. Juan Garza, and myself, we are very excited to be working with your child. It is indeed a pleasure to know that we are entrusted by you to help your child in different capacities.
School counselors, support teachers, and parents collaboratively working together will increase students' academic, personal/social and career awareness. Through classroom teaching, group work, individual counseling and all-school programs, we reach every student.
Our classroom guidance program focuses on 8 character traits (respect, responsibility, kindness, integrity, courage, good judgment, perseverance and self- discipline). We also spend time on career development- helping students understand how school skills relate to their future world of work, and increasing their awareness of different kinds of jobs.
School counselors unfortunately don't have the resources to do long-term counseling, but we are happy to help families find outside long-term support. Individually, we can and do meet with students who are experiencing extreme distress over an issue, or who need support in learning how to control their behavior. We are big fans of behavior charts, which help focus not on what they want to stop, but on increasing the good things they are already doing.
In group counseling we focus on specific needs of students- divorce, grief and loss, getting along with others, anger management and the importance of attendance. Groups help students with realizing other students share their issues and concerns.
Thank you,
Yvonne Galindo Lisandro "Lee" Espinoza Juan Garza
